More DWI Checkpoints Coming
Jul 12, 2008 - by Richard Samdperil
Portsmouth Police have announced that they plan to have DWI checkpoints at 4 Portsmouth locations in the near future. The patrols and checkpoints will not be announced in advance.
This announcement followed another recent public event where Portmouth, Hampton, Rye and other local law enforcement agencies made public their plans to step up DWI roadblocks and coordinated DUI patrols,
As of July 11, seacoast communities has made a combined 307 DWI arrests - Hampton claimed credit for 70 of these.
In June, a seacoast-wide effort at DUI patrols and checkpoints resulted in the arrest of 10 people out of 800 vehicles that were stopped. By our math, that means at least 790 innocent drivers were detained, not to mention their passengers.
